Activist Reports
We reported what little activism we’d done since the last meeting, as most of us enjoyed a seasonal holiday. Brent Olsen reported his success in establishing a King’s County LP in this rural county just south of Fresno. It now has 14 or 15 members attending its meetings.
Announcements
The Golden Gate Liberty Revolution monthly meeting is January 16. This group will also have a table at the Cow Palace Gun Show on the weekend of January 15/16. The California LP Annual Convention is being held locally for the first time since 2009, at the Santa Clara Marriott April 28 through 30. Aubrey urged all to go, and offered lifts from San Francisco. For current detailed listings of local libertarian events, see the LPSF website.
Membership/Newsletter
Aubrey reported that the LPSF membership is unchanged at 47. He emailed December’s monthly newsletter to 292 people.
Treasurer’s Report
Les reported that as of December 31st we had $4,562.11 in the bank and $123.79 in our PayPal account.
Website Report
Webmaster Nick Smith solicited articles, which can be sent to [email protected]. Aubrey usually submits 3 articles a month from the newsletter, but contributions from others are needed too.
Pride Booth
It was agreed that we should man a booth at this year’s Pride weekend on June 24-25. Aubrey will register us, and as usual we hope to ride on the coattails of non-profit Outright Libertarians. The sum of $300 was authorized to cover the costs, which include $140 for the booth (lowered last year due to a new fee structure that favors small non-profits), $65 for insurance (if required), and an allocation for literature to hand out. Mike Acree will be asked to update his pink gay rights handout. We are all urged to join SFPride.org and to attend their meetings to keep abreast of plans for the event.
Election of Officers
The following officers for 2017 were elected by acclamation:
Chair | Aubrey Freedman |
Vice Chair | Starchild |
Outreach Director | Starchild |
Secretary | Nick Smith |
Treasurer | Jawj Greenwald |
Tax Day Event
Following general discussion at the last meeting, Aubrey has contacted Barry Hermanson, a Green party candidate, as a possible speaker for a panel discussion to be held on or about April 15th. Possible topics were discussed, including California secession, state banking, the environment, and taxes. Libertarian speakers will be approached once a date is set.
Banking
It was agreed that we should try to lower our bank charges by switching our account from the Bank of America to a credit union. The following people will ask the institutions specified about their charges and report back at the next meeting: San Francisco Federal Credit Union (Michael Denny), Patelco (Jawj Greenwald), and San Francisco Fire Credit Union (Starchild).
