Old Business:

Participation in Pride Festival, June 25/26 2011: Marcy circulated a schedule and sign-up sheet for volunteers to staff the booth.  More helpers are needed. We discussed literature for our booth (see below).

Literature from Groups we Support.  Michael Edelstein reported on his contacts with five organizations we support to see if they had any free literature we could use in our outreach efforts.  The Mises Institute had a brochure on Austrian economics and the Institute for Justice had a publication “Doomsday – No Way.”  Jim Elwood reported that we could use old ISIL topical texts that now exist online to make our own pamphlets.  There was a general feeling that we should avoid heavy topics, such as Austrian economics, in favor of lighter and more issues-oriented tracts.

Webmaster: The search for a new webmaster continues.

By-Laws Revision: Rob continued walking us through a draft of revised By-Laws that are intended to bring us into conformity with the State party’s.  All are invited to review it in the light of state bylaws and our previous LPSF by-laws before we vote.  Online comment is invited.  New By-laws will be needed before our January 2012 meeting.

New Business:

Participation in Tax Day Event: There was enough interest in participation of some sort with other groups to put the matter put on the next meeting’s agenda.

Distribution of Literature to Local High Schools. Rob, Aubrey and Starchild have started a project to distribute libertarian literature to all San Francisco high school civics teachers.  Marcy prepared a mailing list, and Starchild volunteered to research and add the names of civics teachers to the addresses.  A reading list and some texts (such as “I, Pencil”) will be sent out as soon as it is finalized.  Suggestions are welcome.

Discussion of Membership.  Terry Floyd promoted the upcoming California State LP convention.  He discussed the need to raise California membership from its current 91,000 to 100,000 to maintain the LP’s ballot status under the new “top two” voting system.  A voter registration drive is needed.  We also discussed a decline in local SF membership.  While there seemed no identifiable cause, we felt that getting more involved with local issues and events would generate more interest.
