Political Candidates’ Reports: No reports

Activism Reports: We went around the table reporting on what, if anything, we had each done to strike a blow for freedom this month. Several people discussed libertarian leaning organizations that they donated to.

Announcements:

LP National Convention 2012: Las Vegas has been chosen as the site for the 2012 LP National Convention, and also for the next California LP convention.

Old Business:

Subscription to a Survey Program: Ron Getty proposed that we consider subscribing to a free online survey program such as Zoomerang or Survey Monkey and outlined parameters for each. They are very similar services, both offering free surveys with 10-12 questions allowing 100 responses, and more questions and more possible replies for a subscription of $200 a year. We discussed possible projects that such a survey could support, including canvassing our membership or petitioning the Board of Supervisors for repeal of a non-financial piece of legislation through a seldom-used petition procedure.

Survey Project: Further to our discussion of possible survey and petition projects, it was unanimously agreed that we should have a policy of canvassing opinion with polls and surveys on our website and face book page. An initial project will be a multiple choice “Question of the month” (or more frequently) soliciting opinion on a topical local issue. Anyone who currently has web-posting privileges can post such questions, and anyone who does not can ask someone with posting privileges to post for them. Currently, authorized posters are Marcy Berry, Starchild, Ron Getty and Rob Power. Questions can also be proposed, discussed or posted to the activists’ discussion board.

New Business:

Regional Effort to Gain Appointment to Political Boards: Marcy Berry raised a suggestion from Scott Lieberman, a Santa Clara LP member, that we seek membership of local advisory commissions and other government groups to increase our influence.

Participation in Pride Festival, June 25/26 2011: It was agreed that next year we would have a booth at the Pride Festival but would not march in the parade. We will approach Outright Libertarians to see if we can again participate in the name of their nonprofit for a cheaper rental rate.

Nominations for LPSF Elections to be held at the next meeting: The annual election of officers will be help at the January meeting. If there are no other nominees, Marcy Berry is willing to continue as Chair until a replacement can be found. Ron Getty agreed to be nominated for Vice Chair. Nominations/volunteers for Secretary and Treasurer are sought.
