Announcements:

Michael Edelstein announced a Libertarian conference taking place July 2-4, 2010 at the San Francisco Hilton.  Details are at www.libertopia.org.

Old Business:

Campaigns. Marcy Berry updated us on Phil Berg’s and Christina Tobin’s campaigns and signature-gathering efforts.

San Francisco Patrol Special Police. Michael Edelstein reported on a meeting that he, Starchild and Phil Berg had with Ann Grogan , Jane Warner  and other community representatives about the community special police program.  There are about 40 members of such community police force at the moment, down from about 400 in the program’s heyday.  They go through police academy training, and can be hired by local merchants at about 1/3 the cost of off-duty regular police when they are needed for security or required for some event.  We discussed the role of the special police and how more participation in the program could be encouraged in the face of police disfavor. A motion was passed (4-yes, 1-no):  “The LPSF will do everything it can to support the growth of the patrol special police program.”  Michael Edelstein will contact Ann Grogan to get further information and see how we might best support them.

New Business:

Meeting location. A motion to reconsider the meeting location was passed unanimously.  Also unanimously, motions were passed to stay at the Richmond Police Station Community Room for the March and April meetings, and to move to the San Francisco Main Library at Civic Center for our May, June and July meetings.  Ron Getty will rebook the Richmond Police Station room as necessary, and do anything required to reconfirm the Main Library rooms for the three months that Starchild had provisionally booked.

Strategy for Promoting the Party.  Ron Getty circulated a proposal titled “Five Lazy Ways to Promote Liberty.”  It called for LPSF members to carry and freely hand out LPSF business cards incorporating the world’s smallest political quiz as a “guerrilla marketing” tactic.  Marcy Berry will send a proposed card to members of the LPSF Yahoo Discussion board and will look into costs of producing such a card at Kinko’s or elsewhere.  A concrete proposal can be considered at a later meeting.

Guest::  Mark Paul Williams, an ex-cop living in San Mateo County who belongs to the California and National LP party, discussed his candidacy for the 8th Congressional District seat (currently held by Jackie Spiers) and answered questions about his positions.  He solicited petition signatures for the June 8th primary ballot.  Marcy Berry was the only one eligible to sign and did so.  She will also put a blank petition in PDF format on the LPSF website and invite those eligible to download, sign, and return it to him at 166 Loma Rd., San Carlos, CA 94070.  Those interested in supporting his campaign are invited to contact him at (650) 504-3997, or [email protected].

In-Meeting Activism:

Christina Tobin’s petition for Secretary of State was available for registered California Libertarians to sign.  All eligible had already signed Phil Berg’s petition for Member of Congress in Nancy Pelosi’s district.
